How it stays up to date
How connected data becomes Pages, and where to see progress while Pensieve builds and updates your context.
A company map is only useful if it stays true to the company. Pensieve maintains Pages as connected sources change. This page explains that background work and how to check its progress.
The background work
Pensieve runs a set of quiet processes that keep the context layer accurate as your data changes:
- Filing — new material from your connected sources is read and routed to the right Pages.
- Restructuring — as the picture grows, the tree is redesigned behind it: pages are renamed, moved, merged, and split so nothing drifts out of place.
- Deduplicating — when two pages grow up around the same thing, they're merged so the map has one page, not five.
- Refreshing — when new evidence changes the picture materially, the affected pages are rewritten; the overview at the root evolves with them.
- Tidying — stale citations and loose ends are repaired on a regular rhythm.
This work runs automatically. A failed connection, processing error or capacity limit can still need attention. When you'd rather it didn't touch something, that's what locks are for.
After connecting a source
Connecting gives Pensieve access to the material you selected. Writing Pages takes further work: Pensieve reads the sources, organises their evidence, then writes the Pages with citations. A first connection can take longer than later updates.
A first-build indicator above the footprint meter on Data → Connectors stays visible until all initial Page writing settles. While your context is first being created, the Context navigation entry is disabled; hover or focus it for its status. It becomes available as soon as the first Page has content and stays available while the rest of the build continues, including if later processing pauses or fails. You can close the app while processing continues.
For the state of a particular connection, open Data → Connectors. Individual documents and their status live under Data → Sources. For a particular Page, its update control shows pending work and lets admins retry a failed update. Ask the agent about broader processing issues; capacity is managed in Billing.
