Setup & clients
Connect your AI to Pensieve, choose your company context and start working.
The Pensieve plugin connects your AI to your company knowledge and adds the Head of Product, Chief of Staff and Head of Growth skills. Where supported, it also loads company context automatically: its hooks connect through native Pensieve MCP authentication. Sharing transcripts is a separate, optional choice the plugin asks about once.
Set up your client
New to Pensieve? Start with the Overview to create or join a context and connect your company data. Then choose your AI below and follow its steps.
Try it
Start a new conversation and ask:
Use Pensieve to brief me on my company's current priorities. Ask which
context to use if there is more than one, and link to your sources.Check that the answer is about the right company and open a source link. If information is missing, check your connected sources in Pensieve's Data → Connectors.
Saving conversations
Conversation sharing is a separate choice from MCP sign-in. See Saving conversations for supported clients, who can read saved transcripts, and how to turn sharing off or delete them.
Help your AI use Pensieve
If your AI needs a reminder to consult Pensieve, add this instruction to its project or personal instructions. The in-app MCP Server page shows where it goes for each client.
Copy the instruction
Pensieve is this organisation's shared context layer: a curated, cited map of what the company knows, built from its connected sources and shared by the whole team. It is not personal memory. Whatever you remember about how I work stays where it is — company knowledge belongs in Pensieve, my preferences and working habits do not. Use it for any question about the company — product, customers, deals, decisions, pricing, strategy, team, codebase — before searching connected sources directly. Go to those tools to act, or for the last mile of something Pensieve has already pointed you at. Call `info` once and keep what it returns. It explains how to use the layer well.
Skills
The plugin includes all three role skills. Try: “Use the Head of Product skill to review this week's customer feedback.” Browse Use cases for guides, or copy and customise a skill.
Connect without the plugin
A standalone MCP connection gives your AI the company tools, without the plugin's skills or automatic features. If you installed the plugin, you already have this connection.
- Claude: use the Pensieve connector.
- ChatGPT: follow OpenAI's custom MCP setup.
- Other clients: add an HTTP MCP server with this URL:
Signing in
Sign in with the Pensieve account that belongs to your company context. For clients without browser sign-in, copy a token from MCP Server → Any other client in Pensieve and use it as Authorization: Bearer <token>. Replace it when it expires.
Keep the plugin updated
Refresh the Pensieve marketplace in your client's plugin settings, update the plugin and start a new conversation.
- Claude Code: plugins synced from your Claude account refresh at startup. For a direct installation, enable auto-update under /plugin → Marketplaces → pensieve.
- Codex: run
codex plugin marketplace upgrade pensieve, thencodex plugin add pensieve@pensieve.
If something fails
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Pensieve is missing | Add the marketplace, then install the Pensieve plugin from it. |
| Sign-in fails | Reconnect with the correct Pensieve account. Check a manual server URL ends in /mcp. |
| Wrong company or no context | Ask your agent to list your contexts and use the right one. With none, create one in Pensieve, then book a call for the free trial or choose a plan. |
| Conversation sharing is unavailable | Use a supported local client, enable the plugin's hooks, authenticate the plugin's MCP server and send a prompt; the plugin then asks about sharing. |
Working across contexts
If you belong to several contexts, tell your AI which company you mean; it names that context on each Pensieve call, so nothing needs selecting again after reconnecting. Building your own client? See choosing a context.
