Distilled

The decisions that only ever happen in conversation — distilled into durable facts instead of imported as a wall of messages.

Pensieve distils Slack, as it does email streams, rather than mirroring every message, and the reason is structural: a Slack channel has no natural unit. A thousand messages might contain one load-bearing decision. Mirroring the firehose would fill your map with noise and bury the thing that mattered.

So a scheduled distiller reads the channels you point it at, decides what actually changes the picture, and writes only that — "the Henderson launch moved to Q3", "Rachel is now the main contact" — as durable facts, each still citing the conversation behind it. Most of what it reads becomes nothing at all, on purpose.

What you choose

Slack is admin/owner only, end to end: connecting the workspace bot, choosing which channels it joins, and setting how often it runs. (Literal sources, by contrast, can be connected by any member.) Public channels are joined from Pensieve; a private channel is included by inviting @Pensieve from inside Slack.

Why it's configured differently

A mirrored source syncs when its content changes. A distilled one has no such signal — the stream never stops — so it runs on a cadence you set instead.

What it can't see

  • Channels the bot hasn't joined.
  • Private conversations you never grant access to.
